You have an .m4v file — Apple's video container format. It's technically identical to MP4 with one potential difference: M4V files from iTunes may include FairPlay DRM that restricts playback to authorised Apple devices. Unprotected M4V files are literally MP4 files with a different extension.
Apple uses the .m4v extension to signal "this is video content from our ecosystem." iTunes Store purchases, Apple TV+ downloads, and some iTunes-ripped content use M4V. If the file isn't DRM-protected, you can rename it from .m4v to .mp4 and it plays everywhere. If it is DRM-protected, it only plays in Apple's apps on authorised devices — iTunes, Apple TV, and Apple-ecosystem players.
Apple TV and iTunes play M4V natively (including DRM-protected files). VLC plays unprotected M4V files on every platform. For converting unprotected M4V to MP4, fwip handles it — or just rename the extension. DRM-protected files cannot be legally converted.
